Lighthorne Heath Primary School are working very hard towards achieving the Eco Schools and Green Flag awards for our work on improving the school environment. Schools start by working towards a bronze award. The bronze award criteria focuses on getting the Eco-Schools structure set up so you have everything in place to tackle the work you have planned.
The Silver award criteria focuses on strengthening pupil leadership and whole school involvement while the school starts to work on at least one of the Eco-Schools topics in depth.
We are really pleased to announce that Lighthorne Heath Primary School gained both their Bronze and Silver awards in 2019.
The Eco-committee, led by Mrs. Cox, have worked really hard on writing an action plan to help improve the school and local environments. The plan focuses on 10 areas; Biodiversity, Energy, Global Citizenship, Healthy Living, Litter, Marine, Transport, School Grounds, Waste and Water.
Our representatives meet regularly to share ideas on how to improve the school environment and maintain our eco-code.
The Eco-committee have lead a litter-pick around the school grounds, where they worked really hard and found a box of things that could be dangerous to wildlife.
They also recently set up a competition to raise awareness of littering, and to encourage people to put their rubbish in a bin (or take it home if there is not a bin around). The winning entry will be proudly displayed on our Eco-Board and in the newsletter for everyone to admire.
Thank you to the Eco Committee for helping to improve our environment! Mrs. Cox
